Die wichtigsten antibakteriellen Kräuter gegen Chlamydia pneumoniae sind Pflanzen, die Berberin enthalten. Solche Pflanzen sind unter anderem Berberitze oder Kanadische Gelbwurzel (Gelbwurzel, lat. Hydrastis canadensis). Chinesisches Helmkraut (lat. Scutellaria baicalensis) weist antibakterielle Eigenschaften gegen Chlamydien auf. Buhner empfiehlt auch die Verwendung von Vitamin A. Retinol (ein Metabolit von Vitamin A) hemmt die Fähigkeit von Chlamydien, das Endothel und die Epithelzellen zu infizieren.

Chlamydien induzieren, wie andere intrazelluläre Erreger aus der Gruppe der durch Zecken übertragenen Infektionen, die Zytokinkaskade. Zytokine sind Informationsmoleküle, die den Infektionsprozess von Bakterien und die Extraktion von Nährstoffen aus den Wirtszellen erleichtern. Daher muss die Zytokinkaskade gehemmt werden, um den infektiösen Prozess von Chlamydien zu unterbrechen.

Babesia is a parasitic protozoan that resembles malaria but is transmitted by ticks. Babesia causes the disease known as Babesiosis (other names are Babesiosis, Babesiosis).
